4. YOUR TIP-TOP HAIRDO WARDROBE

Just as you need different clothes for different occasions, and a variety of accessories to embellish them, you need a complete wardrobe of hair-setting helps and a variety of pretty things to set off your hairdos. Since you like to change your hairdo from time to time—to do it more formally for the prom, quite casually for a bowling date—you'll mid it easier if you have the right equipment neatly arranged in a tray or box. Your basic wardrobe should include all sizes. The news in Tip-Top curlers and rollers is interesting to everyone who does her own hair. This year they come in pretty colors, too.

Foam cushion curlers—very new and perfectly wonderful! They are made of soft pink poly-urethane foam, with a plastic locking device. If you like to set your hair before you go to bed, you'll love these—they're as cuddly as a down pillow to sleep on, and the fastener eliminates pins and clips so you can do a roll-up in a hurry.

These come in super-sizes, an inch-and-a-half in diameter, for bouffant hairdos and for longer hair; in large size, which are an inch-and-an-eighth; in medium, under an inch; and in small diameter for that short hair on the back of your head or at the sides.

The new "Curl-O-Matic" is an all plastic curler, in a soft becoming pink. It has a ventilated clip and hourglass-shaped roller for fast drying. The roller has tiny teeth and is adjustable so it can hold any amount of hair securely. But for a smooth set, never try to force a big lock of hair into your curler.

These pretty pink curlers come in four sizes, ranging from the giant size for bouffant sets to a tiny half-inch roller for short ends.

The Tip-Top Snap-On curlers are very lightweight pink plastic The roller itself is hour-glass shaped, with tiny teeth to hold your hair evenly, and a separate snap-on lid, to keep it smooth while it dries. You can choose these in the four basic sizes, too—from an inch-and-an-eighth to a half-inch.

Flexible Rollers by Tip-Top come in all sizes, each with fine gripping teeth. They are packed with Quickie Pins to hold them in place. Since these are of flexible plastic, you will find them feather light and easy to sleep on.

Clip-On Brush Curlers are of pink plastic with nylon brushes inside the rollers. The brushes will grip your hair firmly and this type of roller is particularly good if you want a tight curl, as they do not slip at all. You can assemble a wardrobe of these in the four basic sizes, or combine with other types. The small brush rollers are efficient for short, stubborn ends.

The New. Plastic Brush Curlers are colorful and feminine-looking, with pink rollers and turquoise brushes and pins. You'll find it a pleasure to use them and you will certainly look much nicer in these charming pastels. All sizes are available, from the half-inchers for ends to the big ones for fat rolls.

New Magnetic Rollers and Bob Clips come in elegant shades, a different one for each size, so there's no groping for the one you want. The largest size, two-and-three-quarter inches long by one-and-three-quarter inches in diameter, are lavender metallic. The medium bouffant, two-and-three-quarters by one-and-a-half, are gold metal-lie. Large rollers are tinted red; medium, a soft brown; and the smallest come in blue. These rollers are perforated to allow free circulation of air and let your hair dry fast and smooth. Also two new stubby sizes. And every package includes giant hair clips.

Clips in all sorts of sizes and shapes are available, but the newest Tip-Top design is of stainless steel, with flat surfaces. This is very good not only for your regular sets, but for home permanents. The flat smooth sides won't catch on your hair or distort the locks as you anchor the rollers, or set pin curls.

Bob pins are invaluable in your Tip-Top hairdo wardrobe. "Rubber Tip" pins won't scratch your scalp or pull your hair. A double-coated enamel finish in black, bronze or silver color stays on, won't corrode or wear off.

A good brush and comb, like Tip-Top's Princess Comb and Massage Brush, are essentials for getting your hairdo just as you want it. These come in pretty pink or blue or white pearly plastic, an ornament to your dressing table. The brush has natural color poly bristles that wont scratch your scalp. The comb has both coarse and fine teeth.

Teasing is easy with the new comb specially designed by Tip-Top for the purpose. As the illustration shows, it has a luxurious satin-tone finish, new, exclusive tooth design, extra back combing action and a perfect grip handle. A professional type comb for home use, each comb comes poly-bagged.

Hair pieces After you've set your hair, how about dressing it up with some of the fun things that are available and fashionable? Little hair pieces that can add a special effect are easy to find, even in the dime store. Match them to your own hair in daylight, and no one can tell that you didn't grow that bouquet of curls on the top of your head, or that the chignon is "store-bought"! Pin these gay deceivers to your own hairdo and brush and comb into place. If the wave or curl begins to come out, you can easily reset with pins and rollers.

One of the maddest, gayest little flatteries is a fake widow's peak! This comes from Michel Kazan. It comes in every known hair color and can be "glued" onto your forehead, then brushed into your natural tresses.

A wardrobe of Tip-Top Velvet Glamour Bows will be something you use all the time. These come on clips or combs in an almost endless array of colors, to match your clothes, or to give a spice of contrast. Tuck these at your hairline, at the crown of your head, or wear several in contrasting colors down the back of your hairdo.

Aside from the glamour of a velvet bow, they help to keep your hair in order in a pretty and flattering way.

Jewels for your hair add a glamorous touch to your coiffure when you are all dressed up for a party. Tip-Top has a fabulous collection, priced so low you can have a box of gems fit to rival a pirate's chest of loot. Beauty pins, with Florentine gold finish, are set with pearls, or rhinestones or colored brilliants.

Bobby pins are tipped with jewels to twinkle in your hair; clips come in gold, or silver, or tortoise-colored plastic. Beautiful little clip combs in Florentine-finish gold or silver come in delightfully feminine motifs—flowers, butterflies, stars and sunbursts—both plain and set with jewels.

"Accent Combs," with smooth plastic teeth shaped to anchor them firmly, are available to tuck in your locks and hold them safely in place. You can have a whole wardrobe' of these for every degree of formality. Pick from hearts and stars, bows and berries, butterflies, simple golden swirls and delicate leaf shapes. Some of these "Accent Combs" are illustrated on the next page.

Not only are all these pretties glamorous, they keep your hairdo in place in the most becoming possible way.

Also use your own imagination. Men's neckties make wonderful hair bands. It could be a hobby to collect them from your beaux (good old fashioned word for steadies). Or swipe the one you like best from your brother or your father. Tie them in a flippant sort of bow on top of your head, or use the narrow part as a band around your hairdo and let the wider ends spread out as a hair-ribbon type of bow at the nape of your neck.

Look like a flower while your hairdo is drying. Tip-Top makes divine nets and sleep caps to cover a head full of rollers, clips and pincurls. Naturally, most of the time you won't appear in public with your hair in curlers, but if you have to unfinished that roll-up, a cover is a fine thing to keep you from that shy-making feeling. And if you're a bride, well! No one wants that cold-cream-on-the-face or curlers-in-the-hair look. There are even sleep caps that can make you look like a veritable Brigitte Bardot,

Hairdo protectors for an evening out when the wind is blowing or the rain is pouring are also made by Tip-Top. Frivolous nylon veil bonnets covered with sparkles and other pretties are available. That slightly rumpled scarf will be put away in the drawer forevermore when you take a look at a misty veil, spangled with dew-drops.
